The Fire Station
Lance is in a little joyschool group that rotates different houses each week for learning and play time. We decided to go on a little field trip to the local fire station in July. It was my first time at that fire station and I was really impressed by the how they made it such a great experience for the kids. There were two firemen that gave us a tour of the station. Apparently not many fire stations still have a pole the fire men slide down, but this station did which was fun to see. Inside they had a firetruck made in 1919 on display and the kids loved it! They also showed a movie about fire safety. They gave the kids a very thorough tour of the fire truck - showing them all of the different compartments and tools. They asked the kids, "Did you know that we have a key to all of your houses?" Then they pulled out a big axe and the kids jaws dropped! They gave everyone a turn in the driver's seat of the fire truck too! As we were leaving some of the firemen were practicing an emergency drill and were repelling down the side of the fire station. The boys thought that was awesome! Right next to the fire station is the most adorable fire truck park. We could have stayed there all day long. It was a successful field trip! When it was over I asked Liam if he wanted to be a fire man when he grows up. He said, "No I still want to be a construction worker!"
